The Animas-La Plata (ALP) Project in Durango, CO necessitated the installation and calibration of a new USGS streamgage downstream from the Durango Pumping Plant and upstream of the reservoir outflow from Ridges Basin Dam to the Animas River. ALP is an off-stream reservoir at Ridges Basin, southwest of Durango, Colorado that will store about 120,000 acre-feet (total capacity) of water pumped from the Animas River. The Durango Pumping Plant has a capacity of 280 cubic feet per second. It will lift water 511 feet to fill Ridges Basin. The USGS selected the cross-section below the footbridge behind the Bikis Water Consultants (BWC) office at the RiverGate Lofts for its new (2008) streamgage location. The view from this webcam is live from the BWC office and shows the footbridge and streamgage location.
The Animas River streamflow at this gage is linked below. Please feel free to use this camera to monitor spring runoff, to watch fly-fisherman take advantage of a gold-medal fishery or to observe rafters and kayakers surf the Animas River.
